Morenci as it was during World War II. The Longfellow School is in the mid left hand side. To the right of it is the Morenci Club. Next to the club is Morenci High School. Across from it to the left is Fairplay School.To the far upper right is Arizona Copper Company's No. 6 concentrator. AC Hill derived its name from Arizona Copper Company. In Spanish it was known as "El Seis" which probably came from No. 6. Originally it was called Modoc Mountain.

The Morenci Phelps Dodge Mercantile Store was built by the Detroit Copper Company in 1901. Constructed of steel and local stone, it was first known as the DC Store. Its north wall and basement were made of limestone. The rest of it was built from red granite quarried in Morenci Canyon. It was said to be the finest department store in Arizona in the early 1900's.
