Metcalf High School

This photo of Metcalf High School in Santa Rosa Canyon was taken after all the other town buildings were gone. The school was built in 1916 and abandoned three years later when Metcalf mines closed due to the depressed copper market. It was used as an elementary school until the late 1930's when the last families left Metcalf. A scrap dealer bought the school for $1000 and tore it down. (courtesy of Roberta Troxell)
