Family Life

"[Our house] was a wooden frame house like there was in those times there in Morenci. I think [there were] four [rooms]. Yes, [we had running water in the house.] We used firewood for the stove and [to heat the house]. I used to go to the dairy and gather cow chips to use as firewood. We burned them. It had a natural odor. My father used to buy cords of wood also from Tony Llamas and I had to chop it and pile it. My father had rabbits to eat. No, [he did not sell them] they were for use of our house.

No, [we did not celebrate birthdays with parties]. [We were] Catholics. Every Sunday, I would collect what we [children] were given (laughs) and I would go to the store to buy candy. (Laughs.) Yes, [they sent us by ourselves to church]. Sometimes so that I would not go out, my mothershe would tie me to the bedpost with a chain. As soon as she left, I would tell Quica [my sister] to turn me loose and I would go out to play. (Laughs.) When she [mother] returned, I would have her [Quica] tie me up again. (Laughs.) I did not believe in many things. [It was} not like today when the kids are very bad."
