Family History

"[My name is] Natividad Díaz Herrera. [I was born] in El Paso, Texas [on] December 24, 1921. I was nine months old when they brought me to Morenci. [My parents' names were] Wenseslado Díaz and Teresa Limón Díaz. They came from Teocaltiche, Jalisco Mexico. I think [they came] in 1905 and they went back somewhere else, I don't know where. They came back in 1912. [We lived on] AC Hill. The Mexican people called it El Seis. I guess they thought it was AC Hill, it sounded like el seis. [I lived in Morenci from when] I was nine months old until 1964.

[My father] was a miner. He worked at the mine for PD, [underground]. My mother was a housewife, just like me. He hardly ever said anything [about his work]. I don't remember. I was little when he worked at the mine. During the Depression, that's when we had to leave so we went to El Paso again and we stayed there three months. She [my mother] tended to our other little sisters, she tended to all of us. On Sundays, I remember, every Sunday we used to go to my Pepa's [grandmother] house and she'd have all the family come for dinner. She'd make mole de gallina for everybody. She'd set a long table on her patio under her fig trees and we'd all eat at the table together. [She was] my mother's mother. The cousins, my tia Carlota's kids, they lived with my grandma because their mother died.

Chelino (Marcelino) was born July 17th, 1913 and Carmela (Carmen) she was born December 10th, 1917. Chelado (Benseslado) was born August 25th, 1919. I was born December the 24th, 1921 and Josie (Josephine) August the 27th, 1924. Licha (María Luisa) was born Aug. 23rd, 1926. [The younger ones] I remember the day and the month. Tere (Teresa) was born October the 10th but I don't remember the year. Lola (Dolores)was born April 11th but I don't remember the year. Then Annie (Anita) was born April the 17 th, 1933."
